OLIVIÉ KECK (b.1989 CAPE TOWN)

Olivié Keck lives and works in Cape Town, South Africa. She received her BFA in Printmaking from The Michaelis School of Fine Art, University of Cape Town in 2011.

Keck’s solo exhibitions in Cape Town included; ‘False Priest’ (2014) at Commune1, ‘Selfie Fulfilling Prophecy’ (2016) at David Krut Projects, and ‘The Lure’ (2018) at

Chandler House. Keck has attended two international art residences; The Kala Art Institute (2016 Berkeley/USA) and The Frans Masereel Centrum (2017 Antwerp/Belgium). She has exhibited internationally with No Man's Art Gallery in Tehran and The Kala Art Institute in Berkeley/USA. Her work has been featured at international art fairs such as CTAF (2014 - 2017), and JAF (2015-2016). "Keck uses a variety of mediums to estrange people from the ‘commonplace’ narratives that her subjects portray, to keep the viewer looking with delighted eyes. She relishes in loud colours, juxtaposing ideas, jumbling associations and subverting expectations. The materiality and aesthetics of her work commemorates the theatre of human experience, whilst echoing her fascination with the emotional play of creation, intimacy and contemporary story-telling.”
