Nichola Alice Leigh
(1966- 2017)
The Everard Read and CIRCA galleries are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Nichola Alice Leigh. Our deepest sympathies go out to her family during this difficult time. She will be sorely missed.
Nichola Alice Leigh was born in 1966, to father Derek Milton Leigh (Dick Leigh) and mother, Leonora Everard Haden (Everard Group), in Carolina a small town in the region previously known as the Eastern Transvaal. She grew up in Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal.
She studied for a BA Fine Art at the University of Natal, Pietermaritzburg from 1985-1988. After graduating she worked at an art gallery, before embarking on a full time career as a Fine Artist.
Leigh is an established artist with works in numerous private collections in South Africa, United Kingdom, America, France and the Netherlands. She also has works in public and corporate collections and has had two solo exhibitions. Leigh has exhibited on numerous joint exhibitions over the years and teaches art from her home to children and adults.
She works in a variety of media: oil, pastel, watercolour, acrylic, charcoal and ink. Her subject matter ranges from landscapes, still life, animals, portraits, dream imagery, figures and nudes. Leigh is inspired by many artists including her family, music, books, Christianity, nature, the landscape, people, animals, food, and the sea.
Leigh is also a fourth generation member of the well-known Everard Group of artists.
