Everard Read’s Curator’s Choice is a new and ongoing initiative showcasing exceptional acquisitions and consignments from some of South Africa’s most important artists.

Be Earth Now is a highly important painting by Deborah Bell, from her series alluding to the joining of east and west through the near mythical silk road.

The heraldic horse, symbolic of conquest hovers above mountain barriers cloaked in diaphanous sensuality. The silk road is the promised pathway to a gigantic chalice overflowing with mutual enrichment that has consumed the minds, ambitions and souls of people since the time of Marco polo. This endless flirtation has been both nurtured and nullified by an intransigent suspicion that curdles any consummation.
