BIOGRAPHY
Guy Ferrer is French, of Catalan descent by his father and Italian descent by his mother. He has worked in Paris, Los Angeles and in several foreign countries, where he has created temporary studios - including New York, Caracas, Lima, Beijing and Johannesburg. In 2012, the installation of his art studios in French Catalonia marked his return to the Mediterranean. His work, mainly dedicated to sculpture and painting, also explores writing and architecture.
Since the 1980s, Guy Ferrer has developed an international career, highlighted by exhibitions in numerous museums and galleries. Several Departments and Agencies have honored the artist: including a monumental bronze sculpture for the French embassy in Singapore and a large fresco painted for the French embassy in Bakou (Azerbaijan). The O.E.C.D commissioned and permanently displays the large triptych titled “Liberté-Egalité-Fraternité”.
Artistic partnerships have been developed with several companies, including Lefranc & Bourgeois, Champagne Jacquart, Château Haut-Canteloup (creating a label for this Medoc wine), several books cover illustrations (ed. Francophones, Mobydick and J.E. Flower), Champagne Nicolas Feuillatte (creation of label, paintings, greeting cards, posters, objects, etc.) and Le Bon Marché, 1st department store in Paris (creation of logo, bags, gift paper and permanent installation of the monumental bronze La Pourvoyeuse at the main entrance of the store).
“T.O.L.E.R.A.N.C.E”, a major work created in 2007 in reaction to contemporary humanist religious tensions, is already a recognized classic sculpture (France, Germany, Poland or the United Arab Emirates). In 2015, Guy Ferrer’s works were presented in Malte, Johannesburg (South Africa), Shijiazhuang (China), London (United Kingdom), then Carcassonne and Perpignan (France).
T.O.L.E.R.A.N.C.E
With his monumental work, Guy Ferrer offers his reconciliatory vision, a message of hope stating that the communal and shared spiritual quest, inherent in our humanity, should be a source of convergence. Key to an essential commitment for respect and peace in the world, tolerance exists thanks to an effort of reflection, openness to others and imagination.
This major sculpture received wide acclaim through its exhibitions in La Monnaie de Paris (January, 2008) and in the Jardins du Luxembourg, French Senate (summer, 2008). It has also been installed at the Goethe University in Frankfurt (Germany, 2009), the city of Poznan (Poland, 2009), the Palais des Rois de Majorque (2011) and the Campo Santo (2014) in Perpignan (France).
Three of the eight editions of this work have been installed on a permanent basis at: the François Mitterrand’s park (Saint-Ouen, France); the forecourt of the Government Palace in Abu Dhabi (United Arab Emirates); and the district of Port Marianne in Montpellier (France). The 4th is to be installed soon in 2018.
