CHISI HACHIERI MUSI WACHARIMWA – A SEED WILL TAKE ITS TIME TO GROW

Tafadzwa Tega's work is a love letter to the resilient Zimbabwean diaspora, who have left their homes in search of a better life. These individuals, highly educated and trained professionals, have faced numerous challenges and struggles as they adapt to new environments, but their determination to assimilate and succeed is unwavering.

At the core of their journey is a fierce devotion to their families back home. Driven by this unbreakable bond, they will stop at nothing to provide for their loved ones, even if it means sacrificing their own dreams and taking on jobs far below their qualifications. Tega's work paints a picture of the beauty and strength that lies within these individuals, each with their own unique story of perseverance and hope.

The subjects of Tega's work embody the essence of Zimbabwean culture and tradition, with books representing education, chandeliers symbolizing colonialism, and traditional cloth evoking deep-rooted customs. The vibrant colours of their clothing and surroundings depict a lavish lifestyle that belies the pain and hardship they endure. Through it all, they wear their fashion with pride, a testament to their resilience and determination to overcome life's obstacles.

And in the midst of it all, there is a mirror, a symbol of hope and inspiration. For Tega, this mirror held personal significance, reminding him of his own humble beginnings when he worked as a janitor in exchange for studio space. It served as a reminder that even in the darkest of times, there is always a glimmer of light, a source of beauty and inspiration that can help us navigate life's challenges.

In Tega's work, we see the beauty and resilience of the Zimbabwean people, a tribute to their strength, courage, and unwavering love.
