As part of his recent attendance at the 11th BRICS Summit in Brazil, President Cyril Ramaphosa unveiled the portrait bust of Sol Plaatje by Anton Momberg at the Itamaraty Palace. Plaatje was a South African intellectual, journalist, linguist, politician, translater and writer.

Plaatje was also a founding member and the first General Secretary of the South African Native National Congress, which became the African National Congress.

An exhibition of large-format photography shows the breathtaking images of the thousands of rare Ankole long-horned cattle farmed by new South African president Cyril Ramaphosa.

Inside and Outside the Image: Nigel Mullins’ ‘Artefacts from the Anthropocene’

In ‘Artefacts from the Anthropocene,’ at CIRCA Joburg, Mullins attempts to immerse himself in making sense of history. Through images of mass gatherings, political figureheads and social evolutions, Mullins invites us to consider the weave of history and its hierarchies.

The first exhibition of The Horsemen of Semonkong took place at CIRCA, Johannesburg in October 2016. Since then Pierce’s work has been shown around the world as part of award exhibitions and photographic festivals. It has been featured in print and online in various publications including Vogue, Esquire and The Guardian.

Beth Diane Armstrong - Standard Bank Young Artist 2017

A solo exhibition to accompany her 2017 Standard Bank Young Artist Award for Visual Art. The exhibition highlights Armstrong’s use of sculpture to explore different expressions of these two terms in relation to scale, structure, materiality, space, representation and process.

Her solo exhibition in perpetuum will open on the 3rd of August 2017 at the Standard Bank Gallery, Johannesburg

The annual Turbine Art Fair will celebrate its fifth consecutive opening on Thursday, 13 July 2013. The fair, which showcases some of South Africa’s finest contemporary art, offers audiences a chance to view and buy work from established as well as emerging local artists.

10 July, 2017 marks the opening of The Confession; a group show curated by 2014 L’Atelier Art Competition winner and Everard Read represented artist, Liberty Battson.

The exhibition includes both Stephens' photographic prints and iconic chalk pastel drawings on folded paper with hand-dyded string systems.

1 June marked the opening of Gary Stephens' solo exhibition, PLEATED.

2 June 2017 marks the opening date for Pretoria-based artist, Angus Taylor’s first solo exhibition at Everard Read London.

In the Middle of it will showcase Taylor’s new body of sculptural work; demonstrating the artist’s prowess as both a mason and metalsmith.

Art Angels Africa hosted their first public auction in London, England on Thursday 11 May 2017. The event forms part on the on-going initiative to raise money for the education of learners in rural South Africa.

A group show exploring colour, light and energy in South African contemporary art. Derived from the Latin term ‘specere’ meaning an image or apparition, ‘spectrum’ also refers to the band of colours created by the refraction of light.

Johannesburg-based artist, Michael MacGarry opened his newest show Show No Pain at the Wits Art Museum (WAM) on 2 May 2017.

Watch as Rina Stutzer, a Pretoria-based fine artist, discusses her artistic journey and demonstrates her unique technical style whereby she works with copper plates, acid, patina and heat to create ever-changing, ever-evolving representations of her mental and physical environments.

Artthrob free-lancer Nicola Kritzinger speaks Rebecca Haysom, a Johannesburg-based artist represented by Everard Read JHB, about her recent and first solo exhibition entitled The Tiger’s Bride.

Wayne Barker, represented on this occasion by Galerie Patrice Trigano and Baudoin Lebon, exhibited two of his works, Lady Gaga (2011) and Mademoiselle 3 (2013) at the Art Paris Art Fair (APAF) held in the Grand Palais.

22 March 2017 marked the opening of Utopia/Dystopia at Museum of Art, Architecture and Technology (MAAT) in Lisbon, Portugal. One of the artists participating in the first group “manifesto exhibition”, held in the newly opened Oval Museum, is Michael MacGarry.
